Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health Campaign’s Young Adult Council Seeks New Members

Every year, SAMHSA’s Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health Campaign develops trainings, materials, and events—including National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. This work seeks to shed light on the importance of mental health for all youth.

Help ensure the work they do is youth-guided! The Campaign looking for youth and young adults ages 16 to 26 who have received mental health services to join their Young Adult Council. Experience with systems of care is preferred, but not required.

Participation in the Campaign’s Young Adult Council helps to ensure youth voice is included so messaging reaches as many young people as possible.

You will be provided honoraria for your time.

 

The Young Adult Council provides
  • Necessary Feedback
    Whether working on Awareness Day or developing a new training, the Council provides feedback to course correct current strategies and offers ideas to improve the work.
  • Materials and Message Development
    The Council advises the Campaign team on how its message is being delivered, which platforms need to be expanded (or left behind), and helps create digital materials, such as web and social media content.

    Being a part of the Young Adult Council means being connected to a community that serves system of care grantees in most U.S. states and territories. Challenge yourself while also building your résumé.
  • Grow as a communications professional.
    You’ll be working on developing communications materials and brainstorming on communications strategies, all while learning about social marketing plans and experiencing how these plans work in action.
  • Make a positive impact.
    Your work on the Council will help us increase awareness of mental health and aid in reducing discrimination by strengthening our message.
Interested? Here’s How to Join

We only have three criteria. We’re looking for youth and young adults who:

  • Are between the ages of 16 and 26;
  • Have lived experience with mental health challenges; and
  • Can commit to at least half of our virtual meetings per year (there is one one-hour meeting per month), with the understanding that you will keep up to date on notes and projects being completed between meetings.
